The practice can arrange a full routine medical check-up for you.

This will involve:

Questions covering personal medical history and assessment of family history  Full Physical Examination including height, weight and BMI Blood pressure and Cardiac Check including ECG Assessment of Chest and Lungs with a test of lung function Abdominal examination including test for blood from bowel Urine testing Blood tests for haemoglobin, cholesterol and diabetes and others if appropriate
Other examinations and  investigations may be advised during the examination.

For men, additional tests include scrotal and rectal examination and blood test for prostate.

For women, breast examination is included along with arrangements for cervical screening and breastcheck, if appropriate. A DXA scan may also be suggested.

You will be provided with a written report and future advice on maintaining your health.

Important - Preparation you need to make: Please make it clear to the receptionist when you are making the booking that you are requesting a medical check up - appropriate time is then set aside for you.  You should wear loose clothing. You should come fasting for your blood tests and bring a urine sample with you.  There is a cost for all patients. This comprehensive check up is not covered by the medical card (GMS).
