Approximately one in four of us will experience some mental health problems in our lifetime, from a low period, to more serious depression, to a small number who will experience severe mental health problems.

Mental health services we offer: 
Our practice provides a mental health service on Tuesdays and Thursdays for patients seeking support. Social Prescribing Co-Ordinator Mary McDermott is available to speak to in Lifford Health Centre on these days. Call our office on 074 91 41024 for more information.

If you feel persistently sad, have trouble sleeping or experience unexplained aches and pains, you should visit your GP for some advice.

Most people are treated by the GP alone, unless more support (for example, therapy services) is required, in which case you may be referred to some of the following day and hospital services:

Counseling
The HSE provides counselling to adult victims of childhood physical, emotional, sexual abuse or neglect. North West Region Counselling Services Tel: (071) 9142161.

If you need to talk to someone, there are a number of helplines you can contact for confidential, non-judgemental support!

If you or someone you know is at risk of suicide or self-harm, you should make contact immediately with one of the following:
• Phone or go to your local doctor
• Go to the Accident and Emergency department of the nearest hospital
• Call 999
Most helplines will provide a listening service, give information and advice, provide emotional support and point you in the direction of other services. They are often free-phone services which are staffed by trained volunteers or employees.
